The Joy of Jammies in June

There’s nothing like the warm feeling of wrapping up in pyjamas, especially if it’s for a good cause.

The Middlemore Foundation runs Jammies in June to warm up winter for 10,000 kids. Too many children are being admitted to Kidz First Hospital with respiratory illnesses. Jammies will be given to children at Kidz First and the 76 primary schools the Foundation supports through the Mana Kidz School Health programme.

Every year, Treetops Early Learning Centres participate in this programme, and our parents are great supporters. Our parents donate warm pyjamas, socks, and blankets and Kea children are actively involved in the process of giving. They show love and empathy for more than just the charities. We have witnessed and heard a feeling of social conscience, and there is a boost of personal values and responsibilities to take care of others in need. This is a very powerful disposition young children are exposed to at a very early age.

We ended the campaign by holding a Movie Day at school. Half of the Kea room is turned into a movie theatre! All of us came in warm pyjamas, enjoyed watching the movie “Spidey and his amazing friends”, and enjoyed hot chips together with our Tui friends! What a great and fun-filled day for a great cause! Thank you to all the parents and children who made the donations.
