Childcare expenses can be daunting, but there are resources to assist parents in managing them. We’ll offer a brief overview of available support options, including eligibility requirements and how to apply.

WINZ subsidy daycare fee relief

The Work and Income (WINZ) subsidy is designed to assist parents with early childhood education (ECE) fees. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be the primary caregiver of a dependent child.
  2. Be a New Zealand resident or citizen.
  3. Have a low to middle income.
  4. The child must be under 5 years old and attending an approved ECE centre, such as:
  • Kindergarten
  • Childcare centre
  • Creche
  • Preschool
  • Home-based learning centre

How to Apply

You can apply for the WINZ subsidy in two ways:

  1. Download the application form and send it to: winz@centralised_childcare_reviews@msd.gov.nz
  2. Apply online through the official website.

Once approved, WINZ will calculate your subsidy and make weekly payments directly to your childcare provider. Please note, payments are made in arrears, meaning this week’s subsidy will be paid out the following week.
