Unlock financial support for daycare fees
Childcare expenses can be daunting, but there are resources to assist parents in managing them. If your child is enrolled in a registered childcare service such as an early learning daycare, kindergarten, or other preschool programs, this blog will be beneficial for you. We’ll offer a brief overview of available support options, including eligibility requirements and how to apply.
The Work and Income (WINZ) subsidy is designed to assist parents with early childhood education (ECE) fees. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be the primary caregiver of a dependent child.
- Be a New Zealand resident or citizen.
- Have a low to middle income.
- The child must be under 5 years old and attending an approved ECE centre, such as:
- Kindergarten
- Childcare centre
- Creche
- Preschool
- Home-based learning centre
How to Apply
You can apply for the WINZ subsidy in two ways:
- Download the application form and send it to: winz@centralised_childcare_reviews@msd.gov.nz
- Apply online through the official website.
Once approved, WINZ will calculate your subsidy and make weekly payments directly to your childcare provider. Please note, payments are made in arrears, meaning this week’s subsidy will be paid out the following week.
- Are you the caregiver of a child under 5 years old?
- Is your household income less than $180 000 per year?
- Do you have costs from an early childhood education provider?
- Are you a tax resident of New Zealand?
If you answered, yes, to all 4 of these questions, then you will be able to claim Family Boost from IRD. Here’s a quick link to calculate how much you might be able to get back from IRD.
