Building trusting relationships at our Treetops preschool centres

Building Trusting Relationships at Treetops Preschools

At Treetops Preschools, we focus on building trusting relationships as we welcome new teachers and tamariki into our learning environment. Recently, many children transitioned from the Nest room, while others are new to Treetops, making this an exciting time filled with opportunities for growth and connection.

Adjusting to New Faces and Experiences

Our tamariki have adapted remarkably well, embracing the changes despite the many new faces in the room. While the journey has been exciting, it has also presented some challenges along the way. Transitioning into a new environment requires patience, understanding, and consistent support for both tamariki and their peers.

Why Trusting Relationships Are Essential in Preschool

Trusting relationships are the foundation of learning and growth for preschool children. They help tamariki develop critical skills, including:

  • Thinking and understanding
  • Communication and emotional expression
  • Social skills and cooperation

These interactions, though valuable, can sometimes be challenging for our young learners. At this stage, many of their experiences are new, and they are still learning to navigate relationships.

Learning Through Cooperation and Conflict

In the process of building connections, tamariki often face disagreements. However, these moments are balanced by cooperation, empathy, and forgiveness. While there may be small altercations, they are quick to reconcile, share hugs, and say “sorry” as they learn to express themselves and manage emotions.

Every interaction is a learning opportunity. By working through differences, tamariki build resilience and empathy, essential skills that will support them throughout life.

Supporting Growth at Treetops Preschools

At Treetops, we recognise that every child is intelligent and capable, evolving at their own pace. Building strong relationships takes time, effort, and a nurturing environment filled with hugs, encouragement, and understanding.

Our dedicated team continues to model and support positive interactions, creating a safe space where tamariki can:

  • Explore their surroundings
  • Experiment with new ideas
  • Express their emotions confidently

We are committed to helping our tamariki grow into compassionate and capable individuals, equipped to face the world with confidence.

Thank You for Being Part of the Treetops Journey

At our two preschools in Botany as well as our Pukekohe preschool, we acknowledge and embrace that building relationships is a continuous process. We are proud to foster an environment that encourages trust, collaboration, and growth. Together, we ensure our tamariki thrive in a preschool setting that supports their unique journeys.

HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR PRESCHOOL CHILD THROUGH CHANGES

If you’d like to learn more about supporting your preschool child through challenging life changes, check out this excellent resource by author Genevieve Simperingham on the KiwiFamilies support platform. This is always a very helpful tool to keep in your back pocket for when you need that extra support for your family.

"Children love and thrive on routine, rhythm and generally spending time with that which they’ve already mastered. And at the same time children are inherently driven to keep learning and exploring new territory and adapting to change."
