Treetops Early Learing Centre

Book week at Treetops

We enjoy celebrating Treetops book week every year. This is where we encourage our children to bring in their favourite books from home. Many of our children bring in their favourite books to read. We have a blast reading with our Tamariki.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr Seuss

This famous quote is quite true. When we encourage our children to read more, it prepares them for primary school. It improves their imagination and creativity and strengthens their likelihood of cultivating a lifelong love of reading. Most children love to read, and we can see this throughout book week. Some children have brought the same book every day!

Our Tamariki like to bring in something that gets them excited to share with their friends and teachers! They are able to share with us that their book is one of their favourite books. We get to sit down and read books together. Conversations spark, and everyone is able to share and extend their language ability.

Tamariki build their cognitive skills, which enable them to think and understand. It’s the “construction of thought processes, including remembering, problem-solving, and decision-making”. Each child can build those cognitive skills with their friends. This, in turn, encourages them to expand their conversations, to think about each other’s answers, and to be able to voice out their opinions.

This learning experience has given everyone the opportunity to develop friendships with one another. It was wonderful to see our Tamariki build conversations in the Kea room.
