Inspiring Gratitude and Respect: ANZAC Day at Our Early Childhood Centres

Learning and Gratitude at Our Early Childhood Centres (ECC)

At our Botany and Pukekohe early childhood centres (ECC), we value fostering community and understanding among our tamariki (children). Leading up to ANZAC Day, we explored its significance and highlighted the community’s role in shaping New Zealand today. ANZAC Day offers a special moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate living in a peaceful country.

Recently, the children noticed people wearing red poppies, sparking conversations about their meaning. We explained how poppies symbolise remembrance for those who served or sacrificed their lives in wars, both in New Zealand and around the world.

As part of our ANZAC Day activities, we read Anzac Ted, a heartwarming story that helped our tamariki connect with the history and emotions of the day. Inspired by the story, the children created vibrant poppy artwork to honour the fallen soldiers. Through listening, reading, discussing, and painting, they demonstrated respect and a growing understanding of ANZAC Day’s significance.

At our Treetops early childhood centres (ECC), we are dedicated to nurturing gratitude and a love of learning. These activities are just one way we blend meaningful discussions with creative projects, helping tamariki grow into thoughtful and compassionate members of their communities.

Treetops Early Childhood Centre (ECC)– Botany

At our Botany centres, tamariki crafted beautiful handmade poppies to wear and share. These poppies served as heartfelt reminders of ANZAC Day and the importance of honouring those who served.

Treetops Early Childhood Centre (ECC)– Pukekohe

In Pukekohe, tamariki baked delicious ANZAC cookies, which they shared with parents. This thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to their understanding of the day and its meaning.
